Traditional Dance

How did it start?

The Golden West College Traditional Dance group started along with the idea of having an annual Vietnamese Culture Night. In fact, the Vietnamese Culture Night is a way for students part of the Vietnamese Student Association to express Vietnamese culture. Inspired by traditional culture in Vietnam, the dances turn around the concept of using different accessories like nón lá, fans, or hoes. When dancing, ladies move with elegance and grace while gentlemen accompany them in their movements to improve their traits.

When the Traditional Dance group first began, none of the students in VSA had experience in dancing at all. However, a few motivated students dedicated their time to learn by watching other school Vietnamese Culture Night and professional Vietnamese shows like Paris by Night. Then, they tried to teach the rest of the VSA group how to dance. It was not always easy since the movements were sometimes rough. However, by practicing little by little once in a while, the Traditional Dance became better.

Today, now that the group has more experience, the Traditional Dance welcomes anyone interested in learning how to dance with elegance.
