Why did you join VSA and why did you run for this position?
I first joined VSA because I wanted to know how VSA was different from VACC at my high school. After joining vsa, I found that this was a whole different experience and that VSA was much more active than the one in high school. I was able to make more friends and meet different VSA in the union. I ran for this position because I was asked to do it, but also because I wanted to take the challenge of being a president. I enjoy working with the new staff this year and I hope that we will do many great things this year as VSA and as a family.

Why did you join VSA and why did you run for this position?
First of all, I am a French-Vietnamese person. Born in France, I came here in 2009 where Vietnamese culture was not familiar to me. Even though my parents have tried their best to teach me Vietnamese, my understanding of Vietnamese culture was really limited. That is the reason why, in Spring 2013, I wanted to be part of International club. Indeed, I wanted to join international student club in order to find people that were coming from other countries. However, no reply was given to me. Disappointed, I tried to look for another club. Introduced by a friend I barely met, Yvonne, former Vice-President of the club, when volunteering at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, I joined Vietnamese Student Association out of the sudden. She invited me to come to the first general meeting of VSA of Spring semester. The first general meeting I participated surprised me. In fact, the joy that everyone had made me want to be part of the group. Even though it was really awkward for me the couple first meetings, I kept going to the meetings because I wanted to meet new people. That is how I started to appreciate Golden West College VSA. Since VSA was welcoming each member, I felt confortable as I continued to go to meetings. That is when I considered VSA more than just a group of peope hanging out, I felt that it was more a family. As I participated to various events, I found out that VSA was more than a local club at one school; it is more than that. Indeed, UVSA is what makes VSA so interesting to me. Since each VSA in Southern California is under UVSA, whenever there is an UVSA event, other schools gather, allowing each person to create an amazing network. As I went to more and more events, I learned a lot about Vietnamese culture, especially when I went to vietnamese culture night of other school. I also felt that GWC VSA could help me grow as a better leader and by extension, as a better person. That is the reason why, the more I got involved in VSA, the more I wanted to do something significant for GWC VSA. When the occasion was given to me, I became president of GWC VSA. I was hesitating at first, since I had no leading experience. However, now that I think about it, I do not regret my choice at all. There is a beginning in everything and I started it with GWC VSA.

Why did you join VSA and why did you run for this position?
To be honest, I wasn't that interested in joining any clubs in college due to experiences from high school; however, when a friend of mine told me that I should just come out and see how I liked it, my opinion changed. I went to VSA's first meeting in the spring and really enjoyed myself. But because of school and personal issues, I didn't go again until the 5th meeting they had. I met people whom I've grown to love and care for so much through this club. Sadly, I did not intern for my position because I originally only wanted to be a regular member. But because I grew to care about this club so much, I ran for my position because, first of all, no one was running for it and no club can survive without a treasurer raising funds. Secondly, I didn't want to see pervious board's efforts to rebuild this club go to a waste. So I had to work extra hard or my position because I didn't know anything when I started. But I really think it's all worth the extra work.

Why did you join VSA and why did you run for this position?
I joined VSA 3 years ago, when I was in the process of adjusting back to life here locally, after having spent a year at Santa Barbara. I'd figured that GWC's VSA would be a place that I would feel comfortable at, and after attending a few events it left a positive impression, so why not stay along for the ride?
As for running for the Historian position, I felt that I would be able to represent this club through media (both photo and video) so that the world can see that we put off good vibes and fun times, something that a cultural club should do as a major part of this club's existence is the social and familial aspects of it.
