Modern Dance

How did it start?

The Golden West College Modern Dance group is part of the Vietnamese Student Association. Started in 2011, the group was only composed of few students that were dragged by the passion of dancing in order to perform for the Vietnamese Culture Night. Even though dancing was certainly not what they could do best, they practiced countless hours to improve and become better dancers. After learning simple and basic moves, the group wanted to share their passion for dancing to other students as well. That is the reason why, anyone that wanted to start and learn dancing was welcomed to the group.

As the year passed by, the Modern Dance group wanted to challenge themselves. Indeed, the Vietnamese Culture Night was a great way for them to motivate themselves; however, it was not enough. That is how the group decided to run for competitions like the annual Cal Polytechnic Pomona Showdown organized by CPP VSA.

Since Modern Dance was created to share the passion of dancing, anyone who is willing to learn dancing is welcome to join the group!

How did you start dancing and why do you like dancing?

We started dancing in VSA in preparation for our annual Vietnamese Culture Night. We had always been interested in dancing, but we never had an opportunity to learn how. We eventually met Andy Dang Pham and Dang Ho, VSA's modern dance choreographers, and they offered to show me the ropes. we enjoy dancing because it's a unique way to describe emotions and feelings that words just can't do justice.
